Apply for a new temporary resident visa from within Canada

If  you  are  a  temporary  resident  in  Canada  with  valid  status  (that  is,  you  have  a  valid  study  permit  or  work  permit),  you  can  apply  for  a  new  temporary  resident  visa  to  return  to  Canada  before  you  leave.

You  can  apply  in  Canada  if:

you  are  a  legally  admitted
student  or
foreign  worker
in  Canada  with  a  Canadian  residential  address,
your  current  temporary  resident  status  is  still  valid,  and  your  existing  visa  counterfoil  is  expired  or  was  valid  for  only  one  entry,  and
you  need  a  new  temporary  resident  visa  to  return  to  Canada  in  the  near  future.

Processing
To  make  sure  your  application  is  not  delayed:

pay  your  fee  a  few  days  before  you  mail  your  application  (financial  institutions  and  credit  card  companies  may  need  up  to  five  business  days  to  validate  your  payment),
apply  at  least  two  months  before  you  plan  to  leave  Canada  and
fill  out  the  new  2D  barcode  form  online  (if  you  fill  out  the  application  by  hand,  it  will  take  longer  to  process).
We  process  applications  in  the  order  we  get  them.

We  have  not  yet  set  processing  times  for  in-Canada  applications.  We  will  post  updates  on this  website  when  they  are  available.

One  or  more  of  the  following  could  delay  the  processing  of  your  application:

your  application  is  not  complete,
you  need  a  medical  exam,
you  need  a  background  or  security  check,
you  have  a  criminal  record,
you  need  an  interview,

Fees and charges for visas

​If  you  pay  for  your  visa  application  by  credit  card,  a  surcharge  will  apply.  The  current  surcharge  rates  are:

The  cost  of  visas  changes  from  time  to  time.  The  cost  of  your  visa  is  dependent  on  the  date  we  receive  your  application.  If  there  is  a  price  increase  between  the  date  you  lodge  your  application  and  the  date  we  receive  your  application,  you  will  need  to  pay  the  new  application  charge.

Transit Visas and Visas for Crew Members (C1 / D)

Transit  visa  (C)  requires  persons  traveling  in  other  foreign  countries  through  the  territory  of  the  United  States  and  who  have  no  valid  B1  /  2  visa.  Visa  for  crewmembers  (D)  requires  crew  members  serving  the  ship  or  aircraft  in  the  United  States.  Crew  members  of  aircraft  and  ships  crossing  the  transit  airspace  or  territorial  waters  of  the  United  States,  usually  receive  a  combined  visa  C-1  /  D  (transit  passengers  /  crew  members).

F  visa  is  designed  for  students  who  were  enrolled  in  a  US  college  or  university,  a  private  secondary  school,  or  bound  to  learn  English  in  their  respective  programs.  M  visa  is  for  students  traveling  to  the  

United  States  for  non-academic  or  vocational  training.  Consult  with  your  institution  as  to  what  type  of  visa  is  required  in  your  case.  If  you  are  heading  to  the  United  States  as  a  tourist,  but  also  plan  to  be  trained  in  the  short  program  (less  than  18  hours  per  week),  you  can  go  on  a  tourist  visa  B2.

Payment: 

 $ 160  visa  fee;  the  visa  fee  depends  on  citizenship.  Russian  citizens  can  get  a  student  visa  for  a  period  of  not  more  than  one  year  without  any  additional  visa  fees.

Documents:

Restrictions
